What have we been doing?
This was the first year of the compulsory element of CPD. There were only 45
submissions and 13 exemptions, which indicates a vote of no confidence in the system
as it currently stands. There is a need for change, to a system which empowers rather
than burdening or punishing interpreters.
Therefore, over the past six months, the team have been developing an improved
scheme, for presentation at the AGM 2008. This revised scheme for consideration is a
points based system, and has been based on feedback received from members.
Future Plans
If the revised system is agreed by members, the team will finalise the scheme and
prepare for launch in September 2008. We will work with members to make sure
everyone is familiar with the new system.
On a more personal note, I would like to thank Victoria Gibson, Ann McAllister, and John
Walker for all their help this year. The team would also like to extend our appreciation to
David Wolfenden, NEC liaison for the CPD.
