Professional Development

Caron Hawkings, Professional Development Secretary
My Role
As Professional Development Secretary I am wholly committed to ASLI’s training programme and believe we have a major part to play in development initiatives within our profession. My role is to encourage networking by bringing regions together and to ensure we have a voice both at a regional and national level.
Thank you for your continued support of ASLI.
Professional Development brings together training and mentoring for ASLI.
Training
As one of the benefits of joining ASLI, you are able to participate in a range of training courses across the regions. These are set up as training needs are identified through your regional representatives (see below). Our aim is to ensure that courses provide development opportunities for individuals and the profession, encouraging BSL and cultural engagement as a core component.

Your representative is responsible for raising any ideas with me. We work together to devise a programme providing top quality training from the appropriately experienced professionals in that field. Courses are devised to be as cost effective as possible. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so it is important you send in your booking forms as soon as you see courses on this web site. All courses are evaluated afterwards and we are constantly working towards giving participants a learning opportunity that both develops and challenges us all within this great profession. Mentoring
Alongside Professional Development courses, ASLI runs a Mentoring Programme. Mentoring is key to the development of individuals and our profession as a whole and this programme was established after full membership consultation in 2003. Mentors attend 6 days of training, followed by an individual portfolio based assessment. Click here to go to Mentoring.
ASLI Trained Mentors can then advertise their services on this web site. Click here to ‘Find a Mentor’.
