Working Groups
- A Working Group has no life-time limit.
- Applications are invited to Chair the group.
- Such a group has representation responsibilities on behalf of the association and therefore will have a member of the Ops group as it's Liaison to the NEC.
- Quarterly reports will be expected of the Working Group.
- It may be the case that such a group would identify an issue which, once brought to the attention of the NEC, might lead to the formation of a Task Group.
- Additionally Working Groups report on matters which feed directly into policy decisions for the NEC.
- Such policies are published under menu item Governance to the left.
- Our current Working Groups are listed on the right-hand menu.
COMPOSITION
ASLI members who have a particular interest and experience in the Working Group's domain
Chair - as above, holding full membership status of ASLI
Liaison - A named Director will be available to liaise between the group and the National Officers throughout the year
AIMS
To consider issues related to providing a BSL interpreting service in this domain.
To represent the interests of interpreters to members of the public where appropriate/necessary.
SCOPE
External representations are made on behalf of the Association (ASLI) and, as such, should reflect national policy at all times.
Members of the group are not experts in the specific domain and will only offer advice/representation with regards to providing an interpreting service within that domain.
Representation to external bodies and/or advice given to ASLI members or other parties will be from an interpreter's perspective and be based on the knowledge held within the group, which is not inexhaustible.
CORRESPONDENCE
The Chair of the Working Group will receive emails that are sent to the group's email address (see individual group pages from the menu on the right above), and respond or refer as appropriate.
It is important for members of the group to recognise their limitations and not to offer advice or information where it may be flawed. Where there is a limit to the knowledge within the group, members should attempt to signpost correspondents to more appropriate/knowledgeable sources.
REPORTING
The group must report on its activities, to the National Executive Committee, four times a year. Reports are to be lodged with the National Secretary, prior to the deadlines given in the ASLI Calendar.
