We will demonstrate and discuss productive lexicon and strategies that you can use to interpret complex medical concepts visually. \nThe course covers major areas of medical terminology useful for interpreters: \n\nInterpreting anatomical descriptions\nCommon symptoms and conditions.\nHow and where to articulate sensitive information.\nWays to deal with it in interpreting and translation.\n\n  \nLearning outcomes \nOn successful completion participants will: \n\n be able to develop techniques of dealing with more specialised terms\nbe able to incorporate productive lexicon for medical settings.\nbe aware of the linguistic and cultural differences between English and BSL and take that into account when translating or interpreting.\n Any etiquette\n\nCPD: 6 Structured Points – Certificates will be provided. \nTea and coffee provided. \nCourse Cost: £45 for ASLI members and workshop open to both RSLIs and TSLIs \nAbout the trainer: \nClive has over three decades of experience in both the media and sign language fields. \nWhilst being part of a research team on BSL linguistics at Edinburgh University\, I was ‘spotted’ by a talent scout and became a long-standing presenter of ‘See Hear’\, as well as being an in-vision interpreter. I have also lectured at Wolverhampton and Bristol Universities on the Interpreting and Deaf Studies degrees and I am an NRCPD registered translator. \nI am passionate about collaborating with hearing colleagues to support and improve BSL/English interpreting. With extensive knowledge of BSL linguistic research and with experience as a visual language service provider I devise and run courses with a dual perspective.
